How to use an old phone as a baby monitor

An old iPhone or iPad can be a useful second screen for a child’s room. With the right app and a reliable home connection, it can give you a live view without adding another dedicated gadget to the house.

What you need

  • A spare iPhone or iPad for the child’s room.
  • Your everyday iPhone or iPad for the parent side.
  • Both devices connected to the same trusted Wi-Fi network, or a personal hotspot.
  • A stable, cable-safe place for the room device, well out of a child’s reach.

Set it up in three steps

  1. Install Nuzzla Clock on the device that will stay in the room.
  2. Install Nuzzla Parent on the device you carry, then pair the two devices by scanning the QR code in Nuzzla Clock.
  3. Place the room device where it has a useful view, connect it to power safely, and use Live View or noise alerts from the parent app.

Why reuse a device?

A spare device is already familiar, has a screen and camera, and can become part of a bedtime routine instead of sitting unused in a drawer. Nuzzla keeps the connection on your local network, so nursery video does not need to be sent through a traditional cloud-camera service.

Make it a bedtime clock too

On the room device, Nuzzla Clock can also show a themed bedtime countdown and wake-up cue. That gives the device a child-facing role after monitoring is set up.
